Syfte

The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the area of virtual process planning and to get hands on experience in some of the most relevant areas applied by companies utilizing virtual process planning while preparing upcoming production. The students will learn how prepare products for production with virtual tools, how to utilize software for Geometry Simulation and tools for automation of complicated engineering calculations regarding path-planning as well as how to conduct virtual process planning of a production cell consisting of various components such as machines, fixtures, robots, products.

Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)

-Describe the potential of IT support realization in a perspective of sustainable development.
-Describe the mechanical performance of numerically controlled machine tools, their resign and function as well as their -programming
-Describe the functionality of CAPP-systems and, PPR Database-Systems
-Describe ways of working with different versions of CAD-models and methods for handling problems connected with the wide variety of different file-formats
-Describe the virtual world as a platform for an efficient integrated product development process
-Use computerized operating tables, cutting data preparation, STEP-NC and virtual machining of the whole NC machine tool
-Use software for Geometry Simulation and tools for automation of complicated engineering calculations regarding path-planning
-Understand how to conduct virtual process planning of a production cell consisting of machines, fixtures, robots, products

Innehåll

-The course consists of the following topics:
-State of the art on the virtual toolbox for process planning, including Hybrid Models
-Industrial needs for the virtual world in the product realization process
-Simulation-, CAM-, CAPP-, and PPR-Systems
-Geometry/Tolerance simulation development and verification of production system implementations
-NC-control and programming, NC-machines and testing, pallets and efficient production
-Measuring machines and measuring techniques
-CAM and automated production planning, CAM and product quality, CAM in Rapid Prototyping, CAM and 5-axis Machining
-Theory on complex surfaces
-Theory on prost processing of CL-data
-CAD/CAM communication, STEP & STEP-NC
-PDM from a production perspective

Organisation

The course is organized around:
-Lectures and seminars, providing the theoretical understanding
-Exercises and projects taking place in a virtual laboratory
-At least one Industrial visit and guest lecture to show on current industrial needs and practice
