Kursspecifika förkunskaper
Describe and apply basic statistics such as probability, probability density function, cumulative distribution function, normal distribution, binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, standard deviation, error types 1 and 2.
Syfte
The aim of the course is to help the students to acquire knowledge about various quality endeavors and to better understand the area of Quality Management. The course also aims to help the students to develop practical skills as a means to facilitate organizational improvement initiatives.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- Describe quality management and its principles
- Describe the reasons for organizations to improve and barriers to change and improvements
- Describe how and when different methodologies and tools of quality management can be used in practice
- Apply and be able to facilitate quantitative methodologies practically to improve processes and products
- Apply and be able to facilitate qualitative methodologies practically in order to improve organizations
Innehåll
The course provides an overview of the quality management field and practical training in both qualitative and quantitative quality tools. The course includes lectures, seminars, exercises, and laboratory classes. Guest lecturers provide insights into how quality improvement initiatives are carried out in practice. Topics covered in the course:
- Introduction: principles of quality management, economic rationale of Quality Management, history of the quality movement, customer orientation, profound knowledge
- Quality in Product Development
- Design of Experiments
- Robust Design Methodology
- Statistical Process Control/Improvement
- Quality Improvement- and management tools
- Process Management
- Six Sigma and Improvements programs
- Quality Management in practice
- Continuous learning and problem solving cycles
- Change management and leadership
- Organizational assessment and its application: Business Excellence and ISO 9000 models
Organisation
The main building blocks of the course consist of lectures and group work.

A basic first reading is Bergman and Klefsjö (2010) or equivalent, and other material distributed during the course.
