Syfte
The aim of the course is that the student should develop further knowledge and increased professionalism within the specific field of studies - industrial design engineering. Specifically the aim is that the student develops further knowledge in how to handle an industrial design engineering problem, in terms of organising, executing and completing a development project.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- collect and use the relevant information needed for solving an industrial design engineering problem
- choose and employ the relevant theories, methods and tools for different stages of the development process.
This means to be able to
- choose and use methods for project planning
- choose and employ methods for idea generation and assessment, concept development and assessment, as well as for detailed design
- choose and use, in an efficient and professional manner, different methods and tools for communication
- understand what it takes to lead and cooporate in group situations
- in order to solve the problem, apply and integrate relevant theoretical knowledge in engineering design (mechanics, materials technology, and production technology), in industrial design (basic design, formal aesthetics) and ergonomics/human factors
- handle and harmonise different types of requirements: technical, ergonomic, communicative (incl aesthetic)
- be able to analyse and reflect upon the process and the result
- understand and relate to basic knowledges in IPR
Innehåll
The development project is to be carried out with support from existing theories, methods and tools for innovative product development. The project will encompass planning, executing as well as documenting and communicating the project and the project results. Reflection on results as well as progress is an essential part of the course. The use of relevant methods and tools in different stages of the development process is important. This also includes methods and tools (computer based and other) for visualising and communicating design ideas and solutions. The project will be supervised by competences from the university (lecturers) as well as from industrial partners (where possible).
Every student will equaly share the role as projectleader in the assigned group.
Lecture, readings and test of knowledge in Property Rights.
Lectures and discussion with IDE-alumnis.
Film and discussions about design history.
Organisation
The course is organised as a group assignment in terms of a product development project. The project should (but may not necessarily) be run in cooperation with an industry. However, lectures/seminars on specific topics, more or less project dependent, will complement the project task.

Examination
TH - Fail, 3, 4 or 5. Passed in IPR test. Attendence at lectures and supervising.
The project will be assessed in terms of process progress, project result, and presentation (written report and oral presentation).
