Kursspecifika förkunskaper
MPP111 Advanced Form Design 1
MPP020 Computer Aided Modeling, advanced course
Syfte
The course is aimed at the creative development of form on an advanced level. It provides opportunities to apply theories and methods from the basic course in Advanced Form Design 1 (MPP111) and to experience how different types of creative tools (on screen and in form of physical drawings and models) can be alternated and may cross-fertilize each other in the form design process. An explorative transformation process from abstract form design creation to a concrete product design application will offer a chance to work with form on a purely formal-aesthetic level.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- Exploring possible uses of the basic design elements; bar, surface and volume.
- Categorising identified form applications into main groups according to types of application.
- Interpreting selected form types with respect to associative and characterising form drivers.
- Generating a great variety of new shapes and geometries with the help of different tools.
- Structuring the generated new form variety in matrices according to solution types.
Innehåll
The course is aimed at the creative development of form on an advanced level. It consists of one single form design process throughout the quarter with opportunities to apply knowledge, methods and tools from the basic course (MPP111).
Organisation
The course includes
- a course assignment in form of a form design development project
- workshops/seminars/tutorials/dialogues/discussions to deepen the understanding of the theoretical base and to convert it into personal skills and abilities in the form design development project
- work in the computer lab and physical model building in the workshops
- documentation/report work
Litteratur
Literature will be announced/provided at the start of the course.
Examination
Grades are given according to the scale: fail, 3, 4, and 5
Attendance and active participation:
For grade 3, an active attendance of at least 80% of the workshops/seminars/dialogues/discussions is required. Attendance will be monitored during the classes.
Assignment results (60% of the grade):
The creative output of the course will be documented in form of physical and digital models to be presented at the end of the course.
Documentation/Report (40% of the grade):
The results of the course have to be presented in form of a report that should be written in English in a concise manner. The total length of the report should not exceed the volume of 5000 words of written text plus necessary pictures/illustrations.
