Kursspecifika förkunskaper

This course is designed for MEI students and those with equivalent background.

Syfte

This course provides an opportunity for students to work with a real practical problem (often strategic) or business challenge within a firm, or alternatively with a research problem. Hence, the projects may work with a question/problem, which is of a more applied (practical) nature or of a more abstract (theoretical, scientific) nature. In so doing, the course provides an opportunity for students to apply the concepts, theories, analytical models and empirical material learnt so far in the MEI program in order to address one specific question or problem, as well as to learn more within one topic.

Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)

The course objectives are that the student will learn to:

1. Learn more deeply within a narrow topic

2. Pose an analytical/ evaluative question

3. Structure a long, complex report about one question/problem (often with sub-questions)

4. Develop a relevant theoretical and analytical framework to address this question/problem

5. Plan and implement a relevant empirical study

6. Construct and motivate a proper research design

7. Analyze the empirical results of the study, relative to the theory/analysis and one main question/problem

8. Draw conclusions

9. Discuss the wider implications (if relevant), such as for firm strategy

10. Present the work

11. Comment and give feedback on others work

12. Organize and work within independent project groups

Innehåll

This course is a project course. This means that the course primarily consists of independent, individual and group work. The student groups must design, implement and deliver an empirical investigation.

Each project will focus on one specific topic, but those topics may be drawn from different areas within the broad fields of management of innovation, entrepreneurship and R&D organization, finance and technology and industry analysis. The projects thus provide the student with opportunities for deeper learning around one set of problems in the field of strategy, management and economics of innovation.

Organisation

The projects are carried out by groups of approximately 3-5 students, where each group delivers a joint project report. Normally, each group works for a company and has a contact person at the company. Each group will be tutored by a teacher from the Department of Technology Management and Economics.

Litteratur

The other MEI courses provide a framework. Students also receive basic relevant literature from the project supervisor, but are also expected to actively search for relevant literature on their own.

Examination

- Attendance at obligatory presentations of project reports.
- Active participation in project work.
- Written project report.
- Presentation and opposition on project reports.
