Behörighet:
För kurser inom Chalmers utbildningsprogram gäller samma behörighetskrav som till de(t) program kursen ingår i.
Kursspecifika förkunskaper
Qualification for the master programme or Human Geography with a profile in planning or Bachelor of Science in Conservation, with major in Integrated Conservation of Built Environments.
Syfte
The design studio is a direct follow-up of design studio 2:A. The aim is an individual analysis and reflection of the students based on their experience and results from the field studies in Africa. The aim is also to integrate the master education with development research in ways that offers the students a solid basis for their work. Vice versa the students will contribute with investigations and ideas that could be further used and developed in future research projects.

- Provide evidence on the usefulness of design for sustainable development in different contexts.
Ability and Skill
- Be able to critically search for information and assess the quality of different sources of information.
- Be able to design and assess concrete proposals and solutions for local sustainable development.
- Be able to visualise and communicate different proposals for clients, stakeholders and experts in different stages of the design process.

Innehåll

The essays will be printed in a book that in cooperation with UN-HABITAT will be widely spread and disseminated. Organisation
The number of participants in the studio is limited. As the studio is within the master program Design for sustainable development (MPDSD), students who are admitted to MPDSD will have priority. Show up at the first day of the course. Students not attending the first course day will lose their place and it will be offered to the next in line. Any exceptions from this procedure have to be cleared with the examiner in advance. For further information about admission and registration, please contact Sylvia Pompe at Studentcentrum (sylvia.pompe@chalmers.se).
The design studio is mainly based on self-dependent work individually or in small groups (2-3 students) supported by lectures, tutorship, seminars and cross-critics as well as the concluding part of course B.
Litteratur
Same as for design studio 2:A complemented with literature if useful for specific thematics that may appear in the individual essays.
Examination
Submission of accepted essays (book chapters) and poster designs (for exihibition) and active participation in joint activities, lectures, seminars and cross-critics.
