Kursspecifika förkunskaper
Qualification for the master programme. Bachelor Degree or similar in Architecture, Architecture and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Interior Architecture
Syfte
The aim of this studio is that the students shall be able to carry out design for sustainable building, integrating environmental, functional, technical and aesthetical qualities in a design concept. Furthermore, they shall be able to cooperate over professional boundaries in design processes. They are also expected to be able to formulate and communicate their main ideas and goals in an entry for an architectural competition.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- to design sustainable architecture, for ex. by means of building certification (BREEAM, LEED, Green Building)
- to visualize the performance concerning energy, environment and indoor climate in a building
- to synthesize programme issues into a competition entry
- to describe and analyse the basic features in sustainable building
- to design systems for good indoor climate and energy efficiency
- to cooperate across disciplinary boundaries in design processes.
Innehåll
The studio consists of a competition in which architects and civil engineers cooperate in groups. The task is defined in a competition programme concerning a project on a specific place for a specific client. The programme contains specified environmental goals, in addition to the basic demands in any architectural project, such as functionality, universal design, low running costs and high aesthetical qualities. The competition is supported by workshops, seminars and lectures. The jury is external. After the competition the entries will be analysed and assessed by teachers and students in seminars. The final outcome will be presented in a report.
Organisation
The number of participants in the studio is limited. As the studio is within the master program Design for sustainable development (MPDSD), students who are admitted to MPDSD will have priority. Show up at the first day of the course. Students not attending the first course day will lose their place and it will be offered to the next in line. Any exceptions from this procedure have to be cleared with the examiner in advance. For further information about admission and registration, please contact Sylvia Pompe at Studentcentrum (sylvia.pompe@chalmers.se).
Litteratur
Literature will be distributed in connection with the exercises.
Examination
In order to obtain a pass in this studio the following requirements must be fulfilled. Participation in workshops and seminars during the competition. A competition entry of sufficient quality. An external jury of at least three persons appointed by Architecture, Civil Engineering and the Swedish Construction Industry will assess the competition. The jury decides about the awards in the competition. The team of teachers from Architecture and Civil Engineering will cooperate in the assessment of the course as a whole.
