BSc in Mechanical Engineering
Syfte
The overall aim of this course is to provide possibilities for the student to gain a better understanding of the road vehicle s systems and components from an anatomical point of view and the manufacturer - supplier relation in the automotive industry. In addition, the topics of product development and group dynamics are introduced.
The goal of this course is to raise the students to the same level of preparedness regardless of their experiences in the past so that they can effectively continue more deeply into their studies.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- locate and classify different systems and components in a ground vehicle
- identify and analyze the subsystems and components influence on the vehicle design
- show an understanding of some of the tools used in design and simulation of vehicles and their behaviour
- interpret and analyze the manufacturer role in the automotive industry
- describe and explain the supplier role in the automotive industry
- describe how the product development process influences the automotive industry
- create, evaluate and defend solutions to three specific problems within the areas of powertrain, vehicle dynamics and safety
Innehåll
The major part of the course is an introduction to vehicle design, but there is also some teaching about multicultural group dynamics and value based product development. The course will provide possibilities for the student to achieve sufficient knowledge to take active part in design and development work within the automotive industry. The course includes the following contents:
- Lectures on the different major subsystems and components in a road vehicle
- Guest lecturers from different areas in the automotive industry 3 assignments
- Manufacturer and supplier visits
The lectures covers the following topics: powertrain (engine, transmissions and driveline), suspension systems and components, aerodynamics, chassis design and analyses, braking systems, tyres, electronics and control systems, Vehicle dynamics and active safety, crashworthiness, noise vibration and harshness, vehicle production materials. Development of new vehicle models taking regulations into account and the supplier role in the industry is also introduced. The assignments will allocate a relatively large part of the time for studies for the students. The assignments focus on: power train, vehicle dynamics and safety and crashworthiness.
