Examinator:
Forskarassistent
Arjan Helmantel
Behörighet:
För kurser inom Chalmers utbildningsprogram gäller samma behörighetskrav som till de(t) program kursen ingår i.
Kursspecifika förkunskaper
Mechanics, Machine Elements (Applied Mechanics or similar)
Syfte
The course should provide the students with knowledge about modeling, analyses, simulation techniques and design aspects of components and systems in automotive powertrains including IC engines, traditional gearboxes/transmissions and hybrids solutions/layouts.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
After the course the student should be able to: - Identify, describe and choose the most frequently used components and sub systems in powertrains for automotive vehicles. - Model and simulate the performance of mechanical systems in combustion engines and drivelines. - Synthesize (create), motivate and evaluate the mechanical design of a powertrain.
Innehåll
The course includes the following (preliminary): - Mechanical layout - Components (eg. differentials, planetary gears, gear change mechanisms and systems, including some lubrication and tribology aspects) - Analyses and simulation techniques - Manual gear box and "automatic manual" gearbox - Automatic gearbox/transmissions - CVT gearbox - Power split - Clutches and Torque converters - Balancing of combustion engines - Design considerations of the mechanical components in combustion engines - Design considerations when a transmission is chosen for a particular vehicle
Organisation
The course is organised as a lecture based course. There will be invited guest lecturers on selected topics. Assignments covering analyses and simulations of different mechanical powertrain components are also included.
Litteratur
Text book not yet decided. Additional technical papers and classroom notes are used as supplementary text
Examination
There is a written final exam. Completed assignments will be a pre-requisite for the exam.
