Qualification for the master programme.
Syfte
The aim of the studio is to be a preparation for a competition in the coming studio Resource efficient building for the future . The preparation is meant to introduce the concept of sustainable building , both as principles and as chosen elements in concrete design assignments. Hence, the focus of the studio is the conceptual phase in design processes and training of the architect s ability to formulate proposals under limited time conditions.
Lärandemål (efter fullgjord kurs ska studenten kunna)
- create design concepts about different aspects of sustainable architecture - combine design with investigations - understand and use information about sustainable architecture in given project assignments - communicate important issues in a design project
Innehåll
The contents are based on a series of short design exercises around certain themes. The themes are for example landscaping, material and solar energy. All exercises are carried out as group labour. Each exercise is supported by introductory lectures, and also contains further research about the theme in question. Some exercises involve a client and a real context while others are abstract. Teachers and guest critics will assess each exercise. The outcome studio will be presented in a report, useful as a learning tool for coming courses and in the students portfolio.
Organisation
The number of participants in the studio is limited. As the studio is within the master program Design for sustainable development (MPDSD), students who are admitted to MPDSD will have priority. Show up at the first day of the course. Students not attending the first course day will lose their place and it will be offered to the next in line. Any exceptions from this procedure have to be cleared with the examiner in advance. For further information about admission and registration, please contact Sylvia Pompe at Studentcentrum (sylvia.pompe@chalmers.se).
Litteratur
Literature will be distributed in connection with the exercises.
Examination
In order to obtain a pass in this studio the following requirements must be fulfilled. Deliveries of design tasks that pass each assessment from teachers and guest critics. Delivery of the final report.
