Choose a Printer

 

 
 

Requirements:

 
  • Logged in on StuDAT Linux
  • The name of the printer (there should be a label on the printer)
The print dialog windows has a list of every Chalmers printer, and there are a lot of them.  However, the printer located near your should already be selected.
Sometimes the program you use might not have a list of printers, or even a print dialog window.  In that case, you could try to find another program that does, or you could try to print to a PDF or PostScript file, and then print the file by following the instructions below.

For the experienced Linux user it is possible to print from the prompt in a shell.

Normal printing

  1. Save the print work as Postscript or PDF.
  2. Find out the name of your closest printer (each printer has a name-tag).
  3. Print using the command
    lpr -P <printer name> filename

    • Replace <printer name> with the name of the printer you like to use.
    • filename is the name of the file you saved in step 1.
  4. To check the status of your submitted print work, please type:
    lpq -P<printer name>
Printing with special options

  1. Save the print work as Postscript or PDF.
  2. Find out the name of your closest printer (each printer has a name-tag).
  3. Decide which printer options you like to use. Some common alternatives are:

  1. Print using the command

    lpr -P <printer name> -o <option> filename
    • Replace <printer name> with the name of the printer you like to use.
    • Replace <option> with the alternatives (one or more) that you like to use.
    • Options are separated by comma (but no space!). E.g.
      -o Duplex=None,ManualFeed=True.
    • filename is the name of the file you saved in step 1.
  2. To check the status of your submitted print work, please type:

    lpq -P <printer name>
