Examiner:
Professor
Claes Caldenby
Professor
Beate Hølmebakk
Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Course specific prerequisites
Minimum 100 credits from courses with architectural design focus or corresponding qualifications. Good knowledge of English.
Aim
Focus on architecture "from within", as a field of knowledge with a relative autonomy. Architecture is matter formed into space, where all three factors are indispensable. Materials and constructions and their architectural possibilities as well as spaces and their relations are the elements of architecture trained in this course.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
After completion of this course, the student should be able to design a complex project with an understanding of the role of structural and technical systems in architecture.
Content
Basically one larger studio project is done every semester, supported by different studies and workshops as a preparation. The project could be a large span public building (e g railway station or hockey arena) and a building in an urban situation where technical systems could be studied (e g office or hotel).
Organisation
After completed bachelor of architecture (120 credits) studio projects of 7 and 10 credits can be chosen. The studio projects in the autumn semester will be presented in spring semester the year before, and the studio projects in spring semester will be presented in november. The selection method is constituted by reported credits.
Literature
Differs from project to project.
Examination
Based on the studio project.
