Knowledge comparable to years 1-3 on the Mechanical,
Automation &
Mechatronics or Industrial Design Engineering programs,

basic 3D CAD and programming skills

Aim

The course CAD & PDM aims to provide an overview of the area IT support
for product development with focus on the use of CAD and PDM systems.


The goals for the course are that the students shall after the course be
able to


* Evaluate the need for and potential of using IT support for the
product development process
* Describe fundamental mathematical and computer science methods used in
modern CAD and PDM systems
* Create parameterized, rule-based solid models of parts and assemblies
* Describe the functionality of CAD and PDM systems
* Use CAD and PDM systems as tools in an integrated product development
processes
* Adapt CAD and PDM systems to solve a specific task in cooperation with
other enterprise IT systems
* Use methods for information and process modelling as tools when
developing adapted CAD and PDM solutions
* Describe important trends in the area of IT support for product
development

The course contents cover five basic components of
a product modeling system:

* The industrial need for IT support for product development
* Theories and systems for product modeling
* Methods for modeling product-related processes and information
* Methods and systems for product data management
* Methods and systems for product data communication

Project work:

The practical component of the course aims to train the skill of adapting a CAD and PDM system to rationalize a particular development process, applied to order-based design of hydraulic cylinders. The tools used are ProEngineer and eMatrix.
