EPMAS MSc PROGRAMME IN ELECTRIC POWER ENGINEERING, Year 1 (elective)
Examiner:
Professor Essam Hamdi
Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Aim
To understand and design an electric drive system.
Content
The course merges basic knowledge of electric machines, power electronics and control to the analysis of electric drive systems. The course is designed around two projects, the first deals with dc-machines, converters and controllers while the second part deals with induction and synchronous machines. Matlab/Simulink is used as the main working tool. Both, steady state and transient state models are discussed. The machine part of the course deals with equivalent circuits, windings, flux density distribution and losses. The converter part deals with layout and modulation-principles. To increase the understanding of electrical machines and power electronics, a multimedia exercise has been developed. Three laboratory exercises are included in the course.
Literature
L. Harnefors and H.-P. Nee, Control of Variable-Speed Drives, Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, 2000.
Examination
A written report based on the exercises, an oral presentation and a written exam.
