Aim
1. Inform about semiconductor materials and structures used in different optoelectronic components.
2. Giva a basic understanding of the physical processes used in photonics.
3. Inform about the most important optoelectronic components for generation, modulation, and detection of light in the visible and infra-red.
Content
Semiconductors for optoelectronics, electronic properties, optical properties and processes, heterostructures, light emitting diodes, semiconductor lasers, photodetectors, modulators, switches, integrated optoelectronics.
Organisation
Lectures, exercises, home assignments, and two laboratory exercises.
