In programs
TAUTA AUTOMATION AND MECHATRONICS ENGENEERING, Year 4 (elective)
MTMAS MSc PROGR IN MICROSYSTEM INTEGRATION TECHNOLOGY, Year 1 (elective)
Examiner:
Forskarassistent
Fredrik Ingvarson
Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Course specific prerequisites
You should have a B.Sc. or equivalent in electrical engineering, engineering physics or mechanical engineering.
Aim
After the course the participants shall understand the fundamental principles
on which the modern microelectronics and optoelectronics are based, including
semiconductor device functions and microelectronic integrated circuits, together
with the introduction to the fabrication processes of semiconductor devices and
integrated circuits. In addition future electronics and photonics technologies will
be introduced.
Content
A. Lectures and problem analysis.
Semiconductor materials and properties.
Semiconductor devices: diodes, MOSFETs, passive devices realized in an IC.
Integrated circuit fabrication.
B. Experimental work.
Electrical characterization of MOSFETs.
Organisation
The students are divided into groups where each group is responsible for giving one lecture about a given topic: semiconductor basics, diodes, MOSFET, passive devices, or IC manufacturing. A homework problem is associated with each topic.
Literature
Lecture notes.
Examples of applicable books:
R.F. Pierret
Semiconductor Device Fundamentals
D.A. Neamen
Semiconductor Physics and Devices
S. Dimitrijev
Understanding Semiconductor Devices
S. M. Sze
Physics of Semiconductor Devices
Examination
Written exam and homeworks.
