Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Aim
The goal is to give the students basic knowledge of the computer hardware and software that is used in later courses during the program.
Content
The course is divided into three parts:
* Computer basics, including a UNIX introduction, the login procedure etc.
* Matlab basics, with simple matlab commands, and some m-file programming.
* C programming basics: use of make files and the GNU C compiler, and simple C programming.
After an introduction lecture, the students are given three small home laborations/projects, one on each of the above subjects.
Organisation
The course is based on three small projects. The students are divided in small groups, and each group are examined in
an oral exam after each project.

Decided at course start.
Examination
The student must pass all three laborations.
