Eligibility:

For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.

Content

Dynamical processes in a cell; models for cell membranes;
reaction kinetics (for example Michaelis-Menten); interaction between
fast and slow processes; diffusion; compartment models; models for
cell cycle control; models of ion channels.

The models used are ordinary and partial differential equations, and
stochastic models (Markov processes, the Langevin equation, the
Fokker - Planck equation).
Some numerical methods for the
solution of ordinary differential
equations, and methods for fitting
model parameters to experimental
data are presented, as well as Monte Carlo methods for the simulation
of stochastic models.

Organisation

The course consist of lectures, exercises and a mandatory computer
project, where for example MATLAB can be used.
