Eligibility:

For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.

Aim

The aim of the course is to give the participants an understanding of the process of information retrieval, abilities to locate and select appropriate information retrieval tools, abilities to perform information searches and knowledge of how to critically evaluate different sources of information.

Goal

The goal of the course is to support an active search for information during the studies.

Content

The course deals with scholarly communication and searching techniques as well as evaluation criteria for material retrieved and writing of references. During the course the participants will perform an information search within a selected subject area.

Organisation

An introduction to the library is given in the first year. The main part of the course takes place during the third year in connection with the course Miljöteknik E. This part of the course is distributed on the platform Fronter. It consists of texts, database demonstrations, and self assessment questions. During the course there are compulsory training sessions at the library. A follow-up takes place in connection with the diploma thesis.

Literature

Course material is distributed on the platform Fronter.

Examination

Participation in the training session, approved literature surveys and examination.
