Examiner:
Docent
Göran Starius
Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Course specific prerequisites
The course presupposes the mathematical maturity which is reached during the previous courses in the program.
Aim
The purpose of the course is to, together with the other mathematics courses in the program, provide a general mathematical education needed for further studies as well as professional life.
Goal
After the course the students should:
* understand the concepts of derivative and integral and the relation between them
* understand the meaning of an ordinary differential equation and be able to formulate relevant such in a given situation
* be able to manipulate elementary functions, algebraic expressions, and complex numbers
* be able to compute integrals both analytically and numerically
* master both analytical and numerical methods for solving ordinary differential equations
* be familiar with the approximation of functions by polynomials and their representation by power series
* be able to use and combine different concepts in problem solving
* be able to use MATLAB in problem solving
Examination
Assignments and a written exam.
