Aim

The course is a continuation course with an aim to give the basics in microwaves. It covers passive microwave circuits with a "hands on" experience.

Goal

The goal of the course is to give students an insight in the world of microwave circuits. It provides a necessary ground for a becoming microwave professional. After the course the students are able to design basic microwave circuits and can use the commercial microwave software.

Content

Circuit theory for waveguiding systems. Impedance transformation and matching. Passive microwave circuits: terminations, attenuators, phase shifters, directional couplers, hybrids, power splitters, circulators. Electromagnetic resonators. Microwave filters.
The course contains three lab exercises:
- design of a coupler
- design of a filter
- measurement session for the two preceding components
The course contains also two home assignments:
- design of a Chebysheff transformer
- design of a Lange coupler
