TELTA ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, Year 4 (elective)
LVMAS MSc PROGRAMME IN SOUND AND VIBRATION, Year 1 (elective)
Examiner:
Professor
Mendel Kleiner
Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Aim
The course is designed for students with a focus on electro acoustics, loudspeaker design, actuators, transducers and ultrasonics.
Goal
The students should finalise the course with a fundamental knowledge regarding electrical transducers for acoustics and vibration. Examples of such transducers are microphones, hydrophones, accelerometers, loudspeakers, vibrators and ultrasonic projectors. Design and use of such transducers is facilitated by the use of the theory of electroacoustical analogies.
Content
The course comprises the following parts:
Fundamentals
* Electroacoustical analogies
* Radiation impedance
* Horn couplers
Electroacoustic transducers
* Microphones, electrodynamic and condenser
* Loudspeakers, electrodynamic and electro-static
Ultrasonics
* Transducers, electrostatic and piezolelectric
* Industrial and medical sonar applications for airborne and underwater applications
The course also comprises a lab exercise.
Literature
Beranek, B.B., "Acoustics" and other literature.
Examination
Written examination.
