Aim

To work as an expert in noise control engineering requires the capability to design and carry out experimental work in a proper way. The course aims to give the students insight and understanding for acoustical measurement methods and the concepts associated with the methods. This also concerns the basics of practical signal processing.

Goal

To be able to design standard experiments in the field of sound and vibration including
· The calibration of equipment both for air-borne and structure-borne sound measurements;
· The design of experiments in accordance to standards;
· The execution of standard measurement procedures such as the determination of sound power, sound insulation, etc;
· The application of signal processing techniques such as FFT, correlation, etc..

Content

The course consists of 7 laboratory experiments where the participants can come in contact with common acoustical measurement methods and measurement equipment. The experiments are carried out with a large amount of self activity.

1. Acoustical signals and signal analysis
2. Common acoustical measurements
3. Measurement of outdoor noise
4. Transducers
5. Measurement of sound intensity and sound power
6. Sound transmission and impact noise
7. Room acoustic measurements
ADMISSION LIMITS
The course participation is limited to 20 persons.

The course is divided between quarter 1 and quarter 2

Literature

Lab experiment guidelines, relevant standards and other given course material.

Examination

Before each experiment, a number of questions are to answered and approved by the lab exercise supervisor. An active participation and an approved written report is required for each experiment.
