Content

The course provides insight in the research areas and industrial applications where nucleic acid based technologies are important. These include biomedical research, molecular diagnostics, gene therapy, nucleic acid based drugs (iRNA), plant breeding, construction of transgene animals and cloning, forensic applications, paternity testing, sequencing and genetic profiling, and patenting of biotechnology innovations. A one day hands-on course in real-time PCR is included, as well as a thorough literature study, where students iin small groups study an important biotech area using databases. The results are then presented to both in writing and orally. During the course also a number of site visits are made to local biotech and biomedicine companies.
