Eligibility:

Aim

The aim of the course is to treat the main ideas, methods, circuits, and components of microwave engineering from a system perspective, and thus give the overview system understanding needed for a wireless hardware engineer.

Content

The course consists of three main blocks of system engineering:
1) Low level system design ( block schematic ) of receivers and transmitters for wireless communications and radar: block schematics, the superheterodyne principle, systems, sub-systems and building blocks.
2) Link budget design of wireless communication and radar systems: noise, propagation, channel properties, modulation, dynamic range, etc.
3) Wireless communication systems: access principles (e.g. TDMA, FDMA, CDMA), cellular systems (e.g. NMT, GSM, UMTS ( 3G ), GPRS, Bluetooth, WLAN), GPS, transponders (IFF, tagging).
