Aim

The aim of this course is to increase the understanding of how different parts of the energy system interact with each other and with the surrounding world. It provides basic understanding of energy systems modelling. It presents a survey over different technologies for energy conversion and over the energy demand in different parts of the society.

Content

The course includes an introduction to energy systems modelling, including concepts such as reference energy system and load curves. It includes energy economy, including different cost concepts, investment calculus, and pricing. It includes an introduction to linear programming. It describes different parts of the energy system: renewable energy technologies, distribution of electricity and district heat, and energy demand in buildings and industry. It also describes the Nordic system for electricity trade, different measures to control the energy system, and environmental aspects of the energy system. The course includes three modelling excercises and two calculation excersices aiming at increased understanding of the connections between technology, economi, and environment.

Pass (grade 3) requires reports from all excercises. Grade 4 and 5 requires corresponding grades in the written exam.
