Eligibility:
For single subject courses within Chalmers programmes the same eligibility requirements apply, as to the programme(s) that the course is part of.
Course specific prerequisites
(Fundamentals of digital systems and computers and Computer system engineering) or similar.
The student should have basic knowledge in low level programming and be familiar with terms like assembler, interrupt and so on. Concurrent programming should also be familiar.
Aim
The goal of the course is to give knowledge about operating systems and computer systems, on witch the operating system runs.
Goal
The course aims to keep a good balance between theory and practice.
Content
Introduction to operating systems, process and thread handling, I/O, memory managment, filesystem, network, distributed operating systems, OS security.
Organisation
The teaching consists of lectures, exercise sessions and supervision in conjuction with these.

Written exam, assignments.
