Aim

Space technology and -science is of growing international importance.
It is therefore of great interest to study the basic principles
and specific problems of space techniques.
The course gives an overwiev of basic aspects of space techniques
and provides a basis for understanding satellites used in scientific
applications, such as remote sensing, navigation and astronomy.

Content

* Brief history of human space activities.
* Overview of Space Environment (radiation, vacuum, space debris,
geomagnetism, micro- and zero gravity etc)(see also follow-up course)
* Satellite orbits (Keplers laws, orbit perturbations, GEO, LEO,
sunsynchrounous orbits, ground tracks etc)
* Satellite tracking and position
* Launch vehicles - Rockets (basic Rocket principles, launch sequence)
* Satellite subsystems (platform and payload, spin and three axis stabilisation
electrical power, attitude and orbit control, telemetry, tracking and command
temperature control
* Satellite communication (antennas, receivers, and transponders, link budget)

Organisation

Lectures, problem-solving and one home-assignment.

Written exam plus one computer-based home assignment.
