Eligibility:
In order to be eligible for a first cycle course the applicant needs to fulfil the general and specific entry requirements of the programme(s) that has the course included in the study programme.
Course specific prerequisites
Knowledge in Linear algebra and calculus corresponding to the courses LMA212 Linear algebra and LMA222 Calculus.
Aim
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge in discrete mathematical structures with applications in different fields esp. those in computer science.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
understand certain areas of basic mathematics esp. those important to studies in technical subjects and computer science.
Content
Logic, set theory, relations, functions, recursion, sequencies , series, induction, integer algebra and cardinality of sets. Combinatorial mathematics and probability theory will be treated in the course Mathematical Statistics, which is run parallel to this one.
Organisation
The instruction is carried on as lectures and exercise lessons.
Literature
Diskret matematik by Gunnar Bergström plus handouts on relations and functions.
Examination
Written exam.
