Aim
The goals of the course is to give the participants an
understanding of the process of information retrieval, abilities
to locate and select appropriate information retrieval tools,
abilities to perform information searches and knowledge of
how to critically evaluate different sources of information.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
* critically evaluate the library¿s information sources and independently select those most relevant for their project
* be able to independently form search strategies and search strings, and to select relevant databases
* be able to critically review scientific communication and how it is organized
* be able to critically evaluate different types of sources, their relevance and scientific contribution
* be able to write references according to preferred style and handle a reference handling system
* be able to select the latest research for further study within his or her subject field
Content
The course deals with scholarly communication and searching techniques as well as evaluation criteria for material retrieved and writing of references. During the course the participants will perform an information search within a selected subject area.
Organisation
The course consists of two workshops in the library, Moment 1 and 3, and a group assignment, Moment 2

Course material is distributed on the platform PingPong.
Examination
Participation in the training session and approved literature surveys.
