Specific entry requirements

The same as for the programme that owns the course.
Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.

Course specific prerequisites

The course's overriding purpose is to introduce the course participants in a Swedish/Nordic architecture context and to complete with knowledge that the labour market demands. The course will work with many different scales, from city to building and detail. How the design of this affects, for example, climate and regulations will be studied. The course also aims to learn to communicate architecture with relevant terminology and to digitally produce, for example, drawings and 3D-models.
The course is linked to the course Architecture-a completion 2, 15 c. Together they intend to cover the span from city to detail.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

  • Apply basic terminology and drawing languages to communicate architecture through text and drawings.
  • Apply relevant regulations in designing architecture. Sustainability and accessibility are of special interest.
  • Use digital tools to produce drawings of different scales. As 1:500 (site plan), 1:100 (plan, cross-section, facade) and 1:20 (section).
  • Reflect on the project, the education and the Swedish-Nordic architectural context in relation to the student's own education and practice.
  • The fulfilling of the learning outcomes is aimed at in both courses in total, "Architecture - a completion 1" and "Architecture - a completion 2", but the precise distribution between them can be shifting

The exercises in the course is meant to correspond to the learning outcomes, but it can be differently measured, depending on the individual adaptation.
The student will choose, supported by the supervisor, suitable assignments.

The arrangement of the course is based on individual participation in parts of and/or whole other courses. The entire course or part of it can also be constituted of practice. A supervisor will help to design the arrangement.

Examination including compulsory elements

An approved final grade on the course requires the participation in compulsory activities and approved exercises and project work.
