Aim:

The Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering aims to fill the demands of qualified chemical engineers for industry, government and research, typically in the context of development, production, testing, planning and marketing. The education should be internationally viable and competitive, and provide good theoretical and practical knowledge in basic chemistry, chemical engineering, and mathematics. It should also develop personal qualities and attitudes that contribute to a successful future career. After completing the degree the graduates have the means to pursue doctoral studies and to follow and lead technology development in their area of specialization as well as a foundation for lifelong learning in chemical engineering and related subjects.

 

Learning outcome:

  • Be able to apply mathematics, mechanics and wave physics in chemistry, applied chemistry and chemical engineering.
  • Have an understanding of, and be able to apply, chemistry subjects such as organic, inorganic , physical and analytical chemistry and biochemistry to complex problems.
  • Understand and be able to apply chemical engineering topics such as transport processes, reaction engineering , separation technology , energy technology and control engineering to technical problems and processes that relate to chemical engineering.
  • Have knowledge in surface and materials chemistry with emphasis on polymer materials.
  • Be able to make assessments of risks associated with various chemical substances and processes, and be able to analyze the use of different materials and processes, from a sustainability perspective.
  • Have the ability to plan, implement and evaluate experimental procedures and projects, as well as critically examine their results, both on a laboratory-scale and larger-scale setting.
  • Be able to formulate mathematical models and implement these in computer software to achieve solutions, but also to understand the models' limitations.
  • Be able to collect, analyze and evaluate literature and patents that is published in the area, and follow the subject¿s development.
  • Be able to report and present their results in both Swedish and English, also for people not knowledgeable in the field, and to discuss and present arguments and conclusions.
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and in groups, and be aware of group dynamics.
  • Have developed the necessary skills for successful graduate studies in area.
  • Have an understanding of the opportunities and constraints of the technologies in the field, and how social and technological developments affect one another, including ethical , social, economic , environmental , sustainability and health and safety aspects.

Thesis:

The Master of Science in Engineering programme in Chemical Engineering includes two larger individual projects: a 15 c Bachelor's thesis and a 30 or 60 c Master's thesis.
