Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Course specific prerequisites
Basic course in acoustics (e.g. Introduction to audio technology and acoustics)
Aim
The course's aim is deepening the students’ theoretical and practical knowledge of electroacoustics such as the design of loudspeakers and microphones.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Design electroacoustic transducers such as microphones and loudspeakers using electroacoustic analogies
- Design and use of loudspeakers
- Use of up to-date measurement system to determine the electroacoustic properties of electrodynamic devices
Content
The course contains material on the following topics:
- Fundamentals of electroacoustical and electromechanical analogies
- Coupling of mechanic, acoustic and electric systems
- Radiation: radiation impedance and impedance matching
- Electroacoustic transducers for audio: electrodynamic and condenser microphones, electrodynamic loudspeaker drivers, and loudspeaker enclosures
Organisation
The course comprises the following learning activities: ten lectures, seven in-class exercises, and one laboratory task.
