Course specific prerequisites

General environmental course, corresponding to Environmental technology.

Aim

The course aims at an understanding of the factors driving and shaping the management of environmental efforts in industry. In addition, the course aims at giving an overview of different strategies and methods in environmental management.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

- Analyse, discuss and report the influence of environmental demands and sustainability efforts in a company or an industrial sector.

- Analyse the strategic consequences of environmental demands in companies in different companies and sectors.

- Differentiate between strategies and relate to methods that can be used for environmental efforts in different companies and sectors.

- Recognise and deal with the multiplicity of arguments and attitudes concerning environmental issues in different companies and sectors

 - Distinguish strengths and weaknesses of environmental management systems (general and standards) in order to make strategic choices about implementation

Content

The course is focused on the corporate environmental management and is given as a series of lectures. These involve the environmental factors of the corporate enviromental management (stake holders, environmental legislation etc), the starting points for the environmental work (incentives, environmental strategies etc) and processes and tools (environmental management systems, environmental revision, environmental accounting etc) A project work is included in the course, and eventual a study visit.
