Aim

The overall aim of the course is to ensure basic legal knowledge and adapted skills in legal methodology for students at Chalmers, focused on their future professional life when it comes to decision-making, and as responsible in project management. The aim of the course is, based on the purpose, after completed course the student will have fulfilled necessary knowledge and understanding of the legal conditions in the justice system, the central legislation, organization and management, sustainability, ethics, and technology and business specific legal relationship, and that limited scope for applying legal methodology in actual business situations as well as to ensure compliance with legislation / other requirements.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

Learning objectives
Give an explanation to the structure, function and contents of the Swedish legal system.
Explain the differences in criminal law (public law) and civil law
Recite the most common Swedish and/or Latin legal phrases and terms.
Apply elementary parts of contract law and trade, labour law, health and safety legislation and the law on protection against accidents, with the situation.
Describe the purpose of agreed documents within trade and have the ability to practice them.
Discuss the role of law in sustainability issues and ethics issues.
Explain in which contexts a manager, officer and / or project manager is expected to perform legal tasks and be able to recognize their limitations and assess when there is a need for legal expertise.

Content

Block 1: The basics of law and legal method, sustainability and ethics
Basic law, lawsuit, legal sources, litigation, liability issues; legal responsibility of civil and public law. Furthermore, the sustainability and ethics of the legal perspective.

Block 2: Introduction to systematic work on safety against accidents and protection against criminal action.
Systematic work on safety against accidents.

Block 3: Introduktion to Business Law
The right person, company law, power of attorney law, contract law, sales law, intellectual property including patents, copyrights and trademarks, transport law, logistics, standard contracts, torts, insurance and marketing.

Block 4: Introduction to environmental law, planning and building rights, labor law and health and safety
Environmental law including environmental objectives, environmental and sustainability, adequate rest provisions, the Land law, Planning and Construction Act, construction law, competition clauses, contract, work environment act, including systematic work and labor law.

The magnitude of the course limits the extent and depth of its content. Some areas not covered in the course are, for example, procurement, competition, credit law as debt, creditors rights, mortgages, guarantees and other securities, insolvency, ie enforcement and bankruptcy law, administrative law, import / export and customs issues.
