Eligibility:

In order to be eligible for a first cycle course the applicant needs to fulfil the general and specific entry requirements of the programme(s) that has the course included in the study programme.

Course specific prerequisites

The course requires basic eligibility for higher studies.

Aim

The course aims to develop the student's knowledge and skills around the creation and development of growth businesses, through the application of the different elements that are behind a business, such as a business plan.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

1.Through the business plan demonstrate the ability to develop an early business idea, including to convince about customer value, business model, marketing and competitor analysis, organization, skills requirements, profitability, financing, and possible means of protecting the business idea.
2. Show the ability through teamwork to acquire, utilize and integrate knowledge in the form of a convincing business plan
3. Through participation in workshops and through the business plan develop skills to present and communicate the core values around a future business

Content

The course includes a web-based learning management system, mandatory workshops as well as a process for the submission of a business plan. Aspects covered in the course are:
1. Business idea, customer value & business model
2. Management and organization
3. Marketing strategy
4. The entrepreneur as a leader
5. Sales
6. Profitability assessment, accounting & financing
7. Sustainable business
8. Action planning and risks

Organisation

Instruction is given in the form of mandatory workshops where active participation will raise awareness on relevant issues such as team composition, funding and how to practically start a business. Since the Venture Cup competition is organized in English there will also be course elements in English.

The course is offered in collaboration with Venture Cup Väst

Examination including compulsory elements

The examination consists of mandatory attendance at a number of workshops specified in the course-pm and submissions related to the Venture Cup competition. Overdue assignments are not considered. If a business plan/action plan is not approved, the student must submit a new business plan/action plan around another business in the coming competition round for in order to pass the course. Approved participation in a workshop is valid for three years provided that the course and the competition are offered.

Maximum three course participants in each group.
