Aim

The aim of this thesis project work is to train students to use scientific and problemsolving methods within a specified subject area.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

formulate and delimit a problem within the topic chosen
plan the project in order to solve and report on the problem within given resources
seek, obtain and value available literature and other background information
integrate and develop knowledge within the chosen problem field
document the implementation of the project
report the results of the project and how these correspond to the project- and practical use of the project in written and oral form
critically evaluate, value and question another project with respect to problem, approach and results

Content

The main part of the bachelor thesis is a project. The aim of the project is to integrate, deepen and develop the knowledge and skills of the student within a specific area of the core curriculum. The student chooses the field of specialization among the projects that are provided. In order to facilitate and support the thesis work a number of generic competencies are taught, which are turned into practical use within the project. Particular emphasis is given to writing and reporting on the own thesis, both orally and by writing the thesis which is supposed to be readable to a wide audience.

Organisation

The bachelor thesis is conducted mainly as a project, and the thesis project group is maximum six persons. At determined times supervision is provided within the project's theme, and within the generic competencies. Interrim reports and planning documents are to be provided at determined dates to which feedback is provided by the supervisors.

Literature

Announced at the start of the course.

Examination

The thesis is reported in written form according to received standards for scientific and technical reports. The thesis is also presented orally and is defended during a workshop. The written part may consist of an independently authored report, or an identifiable part of a joint report. In additon, the project team should critically examine and discuss another group's thesis work, and serve as opponents to another group. For the examination, emphasis is assigned to the quality of the report, oral presentation and discussion, and in particular the linkage to the general goals of the thesis work (see above).
