Select courses for the spring semester of 2022

If you have compulsory elective or elective courses in your programme curriculum for study periods 3 and 4 you select courses on universityadmissions.se. You should not select compulsory courses, but you have to register for them in Ladok during the period for registration.

To keep in mind when selecting courses

In the programme curriculum, you see which courses are included in your program and which courses are required for your degree. You are responsible for ensuring that you meet the prerequisites and have the right prior knowledge. The requirements can be found in Search course. You should plan your courses according to the block schedule.

Last day to select courses

23 November at 23.59 – the course selection closes. Then a selection is made among all applicants.
On 1 December, you will receive a notification of selection results with reply requirement. You must reply to your notification of selection results no later than 7 December to keep the seats you've been offered, or to remain on the reserve/waiting list.

Selection for courses with limited seats

The selection is based on prioritizing between different selection groups that have the course as a compulsory elective or as elective. In short, the following rules are followed:

  • Master programme students have priority to courses within their own programme curriculum over master programme students from other programmes.
  • Master programme students have priority over exchange students.
  • The lowest priority is given to students that make a late application.

Reserve/waiting list

A student who is not offered a seat ends up in a reserve list. The ranking in the reserve list is based on which selection group you belong to. If a seat becomes available, the first student is offered the seat. If the student declines, the offer goes to the next student on the list, and so on.

Register for courses for the spring semester

Remember to register for the courses in Ladok when the registration is open for each study period – see dates in the timeline above.

How do I make the course selection?

You do the course selection at universityadmissions.se (or Antagning.se in Swedish). Please make sure that you have the correct email address registered at universityadmissions.se, it is important to receive Notification of results. The course selection opens on 9 November, in the afternoon, and closes on 23 November at midnight. Please make the course selection well in advance before it closes!

Follow the steps below to make your selection:

Here you can see a more detailed manual

  1.  Enter universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se)
  2. Under the tab ”Log in” you should log in with your university account. Choose “Chalmers University of Technology” in the drop-down list. Click on “To Student Portal” to proceed.
  3. Use your CID (Chalmers ID) and your password. Please note! You may log in with your universityadmissions.se-account.
  4. Go to “Find courses & programmes”. Choose ”Chalmers University of Technology”, ”Spring 2022” and choose ”Courses”. (Don´t tick the box "Only show courses that I can apply to within my programme" under Options for programme students. You will then see fewer courses.)
  5. Make your selection and prioritize your selected courses. Do not forget to pick secondary choices.
  6. You will receive a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address you have registered at universityadmissions.se.
If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail you have to search your junk mail or retry your application.

  7. You can rearrange and change courses until 23 November.
  8. You receive the Notification of Selection Results 1 with reply requirement on 1 December.
  9. Between 1 December and 7 December you must reply to your first Notification of Selection Results to keep the places you've been offered, or to remain on the reserve/waiting list for the second selection round.
  10. The second Notification of selection result arrives on 10 December. No reply is required. If you decide not to attend the course you've been offered a seat in, please be sure to decline it. You do that at Universityadmissions.se in your account. This makes the place available for students on the reserve/waiting list.

How many courses should I select?

You can select a maximum of nine courses. You only need to pick reserve courses for courses that have limited seats. You are recommended to choose at least one reserve course for each course with limited seats. You do not have to choose a reserve course for courses with unlimited seats. If you use all nine choices from the beginning, you will not be able to add additional choices in the late application.

How should I prioritize my choices at universityadmissions.se?

If you are going to study one compulsory elective or elective course, simply prioritize your courses in the order in which you are interested. If you are planning to study two or more compulsory elective or elective courses, the courses need to be prioritized according to a certain order. The courses you prefer to study should be given the highest priority. Thereafter, you prioritize your reserve courses for courses with limited seats.

Here you can see more detailed examples of scenarios

Example 1: According to your curriculum, you must choose one course in study period 3 and one in study period 4. The course in study period 3 has limited seats. Therefore, you prioritize your first choices for study periods 3 and 4 as priority 1 and 2. You then prioritize your reserve course for study period 3 as your priority 3.

Example 2: According to your curriculum, you must choose one course in study period 3 and one in study period 4. Both courses have limited seats. Therefore, you prioritize your first choices for study periods 3 and 4 as priority 1 and 2. You then prioritize your reserve courses for study period 3 and study period 4 as your priority 3 and 4. You prioritize your possible third-hand courses last.

Example 3: According to your curriculum, you must choose two courses in study period 3 and one in study period 4. You must therefore prioritize your first-hand courses in priority place 1 (LP3 course), 2 (LP3 course) and 3 (LP4 course). You do not pick reserve courses for courses with unlimited seats. Your reserve courses are prioritized thereafter. You prioritize your possible third-hand courses last.

Example 4 (Architecture – MPARC and MPDSD): According to your curriculum, you must select three courses in total for study period 3 and study period 4: One 22,5 credit course, one 4,5 credit course and one 3 credit course. Prioritize your courses like this: First your 22,5 credit courses, then the 4,5 credit courses and last the 3 credit courses.

Students in a Double Degree programme

You must make a course selection at universityadmissions.se according to the same procedure as other Chalmers programme students.

Students studies at Nordic 5 Tech and Erasmus Mundus

You do not do the selection at universityadmissions.se. Please contact your coordinator for the exchange programme.

Exchange students

You should not use the course selection to drop or add courses. Please read here for instructions on how to change courses.

Information for fee-paying students

The tuition fee covers 30 credits per semester. You must check, and are responsible for, not signing up for more credits than is permitted per semester. For any deviations read the regulations. It is allowed to change a course within three weeks from the start of the course without paying a new tuition fee. Please note that all teachers do not accept new students after study week one. If you cancel a course later than three weeks after the start of the course, you must pay the tuition fee for the new course.

Chalmers will check the number of registered course credits and issue an invoice for the number of credits that exceed the allowed maximum that is covered by the fee. Therefore, check your registrations regularly so that you are not registered on courses you do not intend to read. If you cancel a course later than three weeks after the course start, it still counts as registered credits.
