Students that have compulsory elective/elective courses in their programme curriculum for study period 1 need to make a course selection. If this applies to you, you will receive course selection information from your programme around the time the course selection opens. Students in programmes that only have compulsory courses in the curriculum in study period 1 should not make a course selection.
If you have been newly admitted to a master’s programme you should normally not make a course selection for study period 1, first semester.
You should not select compulsory courses in your study programme; you only have to register for them in Ladok for students during the period for registration.
Information on this page does not apply to incoming exchange students. Incoming exchange students should contact their CIM coordinator for questions about course selection.
Access to the course
selection
You select your
courses at universityadmissions.se. Students
studying at regular pace have automatic access to making a course selection in
the study periods they need to.
Contact the student guidance counselor or the director
of studies for your programme to get access to making a course selection if:
You will find a link
to contact information at the bottom of this page.
To keep in mind when selecting
courses
- In the programme curriculum, you see which courses
are included in your program and which courses are required for your
degree. You are responsible for selecting courses that contribute to meeting
the degree requisites for your programme.
- In the course syllabus you can see the prerequisites
for the course. You are responsible for ensuring that you meet the
prerequisites and have the right prior knowledge.
- In the course syllabus you can
also see if the course has a maximum number of participants. Always select
reserve course/-s if you select a course/courses with a maximum number of
participants.
- You should plan your courses
according to the the block schedule.
After the course selection
Last day
to select courses at 23.59 – the course selection closes. Then a selection is made among all
applicants. You will receive a notification of selection results with the
course(s) you have been offered, see dates above.
Selection for courses with limited seats
The selection
is based on prioritizing between different selection groups. In short, the
following rules apply:
- Master’s
programme students have priority to courses within their own study programme
over master’s programme students from other programmes.
- Master’s
programme students have priority over exchange students.
- The
lowest priority is given to students that make a late application.
Reserve/waiting list
A student
who is not offered a seat is placed on a reserve list. The ranking in the
reserve list is based on which selection group you belong to. If a seat becomes
available, the first student is offered the seat. If the student declines, the
offer goes to the next student on the list, and so on.
Register on courses
You must register in Ladok on courses in study period 1
yourself, during the registration period.
How do I make the course
selection?
You do the
course selection at universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se for corresponding
webpage in Swedish). Please make sure that you have the
correct email address registered at universityadmissions.se, otherwise you
might not receive the notification of results. Follow the steps below to make
your selection:
Here you can see a more detailed manual.
Follow the steps below to make your selection:
- Go to universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se )
- Under the tab ”Log in” you should log in with your
university account. Choose “Chalmers University of Technology” in the drop-down
list. Click on “To Student Portal” to proceed.
- Use your CID (Chalmers ID) and your password.
Please note! You may also log in with the account you got at
universityadmissions.se.
- Click “My Selection” and then “Find courses and
programmes”. Choose semester in the box Semester and filter out “Courses” and
“Chalmers University of Technology”. (Don´t tick the box "Only show
courses that I can apply to within my programme" under Options for
programme students. You will then only see courses in your programme plan.)
- Make your selection and prioritize your selected
courses. Do not forget to pick secondary choices (reserve courses) if you
choose courses with limited seats.
- You will receive a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail
address you have registered at universityadmissions.se. If you do not receive a
confirmation e-mail, check your folder for junk mail. If you do not find the
confirmation e-mail there, make your course selection again.
- You can rearrange and change your selected courses
until the deadline.
- You receive your notification of selection results,
see top of page for date.
How many courses should I select?
You can select a maximum of eight courses. You only need to select reserve courses for courses that are seat limited. You are recommended to select at least one reserve course for each course that is seat limited. You do not have to select a reserve course for courses that are seat unlimited.
Important note! If you select eight courses from the beginning, and therefore use all eight positions, you will not be able to add additional courses in the late application.
How should I prioritize my selected courses?
If you are
going to study one compulsory elective or elective course, simply prioritize
your courses in the order of interest. If you are planning to study two or more
compulsory elective or elective courses, the courses need to be prioritized in
a certain order. The courses you prefer to study should be given the highest
priority. Thereafter, you prioritize your reserve courses for courses that are
seat limited
Example
1: Selection of one course.
According to your
curriculum, you should select one course in study period 1. You prioritize your
first choice at position 1. This is a seat limited course. You then prioritize
reserve courses at positions 2 and 3. If your first choice instead is a seat
unlimited course, you do not have to select reserve courses.
Example 2:
Selection of two seat limited courses
According to your curriculum, you should select two courses in study period 1. You
prioritize your first choices at positions 1 and 2. Both courses are seat
limited. You then prioritize reserve courses at positions 3 and 4. If these are
also seat limited courses you should prioritize two additional seat unlimited
reserve courses at positions 5 and 6.
Example 3:
Selection of two courses where one is seat limited
According to your curriculum, you should select two courses in study period 1. You
prioritize your first choices at positions 1 and 2. One of the courses is seat
limited. You then prioritize a reserve course at position 3. If this is also a
seat limited course you should prioritize an additional seat unlimited reserve
course at position 4.
Example 4:
Selection of two seat unlimited courses
According to your curriculum, you should select two courses in study period 1. You
prioritize your first choices at positions 1 and 2. Both courses are seat
unlimited. You do not have to select reserve courses.
Example 5:
For students enrolled in MPARC or MPDSD
You can follow “Track
1”: one 22,5 credits course and the two master’s thesis preparation courses,
4,5 credits and 3 credits, or follow “Track 2”: one 15 credits course and two
7,5 credits courses. “Track 2” is selected as a course package. Prioritize the
22,5 credits courses you are interested in and (if you want) the 15 credits
course from track 2 first, you add the 7,5 credits courses from track 2 after
that (if you want to apply for them), and don’t forget to add both master’s
thesis preparation courses at the bottom of your list.
What do I do if I miss the deadline for the course selection, or want to adjust it after it has closed?
If you miss
the deadline for the course selection, you may still apply for courses during
the late application period. Courses that are closed for applicants, for
instance seat limited courses that were filled after the course selection
period, will not be available during this period. Late applications are given
the lowest priority and you will be placed at the back of reserve lists if a
course is full. If you adjust your course selection during this period, your
new selection will also have the lowest priority. Late applications are also
made at universityadmissions.se.
Information for fee-paying students
The tuition
fee covers 30 credits per semester, and you are responsible for not signing up
for more credits per semester. For any deviations from this, please read the regulations
below. You can switch a course to another course within three weeks from the
start of the course without paying a new tuition fee. After that time, you must
pay the tuition fee for new course. Chalmers will check the number of
registered course credits and issue an invoice for the number of credits that
exceed the allowed maximum that is covered by the fee. Therefore, check your
registrations regularly so that you are not registered on courses you do not
intend to take. If you cancel a course later than three weeks after the course
start, it still counts as registered credits.
