Your cover letter is a sales letter

Your cover letter is a crucial part of your job application. It is a letter where you directly address the prospective employer about how useful your skills would be at their company. Your cover letter should increase the interest a prospective employer might feel in you as a potential employee.

Instead of repeating your resume in the letter, sell your accomplishments. Unless of course your degree is the big seller? Write about the interesting or great things you have done – catch their attention! Use the interesting stuff –there always is interesting stuff. Maybe – I am the original, complete computer nerd. Absolutely perfect for the job.

And never, never, say anything negative about yourself, your abilities or your personal situation –or even your current employer!
