Doctoral study subjects and graduate schools

Doctoral studies at Chalmers are arranged by subject and organised in subject-graduate schools (hereinafter referred to as graduate schools). Each graduate school corresponds to and has the same name as the subject. A general syllabus exists for each field of doctoral studies, which sets forth the qualifications and knowledge required to be admitted, the principal content of the study programme, as well as examination requirements.

A graduate school belongs to a specific department or several departments (cross-institutional) at Chalmers. All doctoral students are admitted to a graduate school. In addition, the doctoral student may take part in other graduate schools' activities, such as courses and seminars organised by national and international graduate schools – which creates good prerequisites for collaboration both now and in the future.
