Doctoral Thesis Defence



The thesis must be presented and defended at a public defence. The defence must take place during the period August 25 - December 21 or January 9 - June 12 and during normal working hours. If you have particular reasons the head of department (or deputy head of department) can allow the defence to take place at another time. If this is the case, you must, together with your supervisor, contact the head of department (or deputy head of department) and state the reasons.

The defence must, unless there are specific reasons, take place on the Chalmers campus.

Application for a defence
To allow the thesis to be examined in advance you must, as early as possible, and no later than four months prior to the defence, notify the head of department (or deputy head of department) that you wish to defend your thesis. The examiner will at the same time provide a suggestion for a faculty opponent and members of the Evaluation Committee, including a short presentation of the faculty opponent and possible external members of the Evaluation Committee. The head of department (or deputy head of department) later appoints a faculty opponent, Evaluation Committee and a chairman for the defence.
