Philipp Hoier: The effect of workpiece microstructure on tool wear in metal cutting

Manufacturing of components used in e.g. cars usually includes metal cutting operations where the metal is cut into the desired shape. After some time of cutting, the used cutting-tools wear down. Similar to cutting tomatoes with a blunt knife, cutting metal with a blunt tool will lead to improper dimensions of the cut and the component (or tomato slice) has to be thrown away. This presentation is about my research regarding the influence of metal microstructures on tool wear.
